Project Manager - H2Global Shipping Initiative (all genders)

JOIN THE TEAM & DRIVE DECARBONIZATION IN THE GLOBAL SHIPPING INDUSTRY WITH H2GLOBAL

Are you passionate about tackling climate change and ready to make a tangible impact on the maritime sector? Join our dynamic, international team at H2Global and play a pivotal role in the H2Global Shipping Initiative (H2GSI). Funded by philanthropic support, H2GSI is dedicated to accelerating the transition to clean fuels in hard-to-abate shipping sectors. We're seeking a driven Project Manager to identify promising applications of the H2Global mechanism in shipping and engage with key stakeholders (governments, IFIs). You'll help foster synergies with initiatives like ZEMBA and Green Corridors, raise awareness of the H2Global mechanism within the shipping industry, and create a strategic plan for future shipping tenders, exploring funding from public capital, development finance, and/or International Maritime Organization (IMO).

TASKS AND ACTIVITIES YOU WILL SUPPORT US WITH

As a core member of the H2GSI team, you'll work closely with the Head of H2GSI, part of the H2Global Solutions Lab. This lab aims to accelerate the adoption of clean hydrogen and its derivatives in sectors like chemicals (agrochemicals, basic chemicals, etc.), heavy transport (shipping, aviation, etc.), cement and steel, which are challenging to decarbonize through direct electrification. The Solutions Lab will leverage the H2Global mechanism to facilitate international collaboration and stimulate investment into the clean fuels needed to meet climate targets and promote green industrialization.

The H2Global Shipping Initiative team will collaborate closely with other teams within the H2Global Foundation – outreach, research, administration - committed to accelerating the emergence of clean fuels markets.

The Project Manager is expected to focus on the following areas:

Shipping Industry Expertise:

  1. Conduct in-depth analysis of clean fuel options (ammonia, methanol, hydrogen), considering technical and economic feasibility, infrastructure, and availability.
  2. Monitor shipping emissions profiles, regulatory landscapes (IMO, national policies), and the impact of market-based mechanisms (carbon pricing).
  3. Analyze existing decarbonization initiatives (ZEMBA, Green Corridors, etc.) and identify potential synergies.
  4. Track the scaling of clean fuel production on shore.

Strategic Partnerships:

  1. Develop and maintain relationships with shipowners, operators, ports, fuel suppliers, and technology providers.
  2. Organize stakeholder workshops and meetings to gather input and build consensus.
  3. Engage with port authorities to understand infrastructure needs for clean fuel bunkering.
  4. Actively participate in shipping industry alliances and working groups.

H2Global Mechanism Application to Shipping:

  1. Support the development of financial models and risk assessments for potential H2Global shipping tenders.
  2. Identify and engage potential funding partners, particularly governments with strategic shipping/port interests.
  3. Develop compelling pitches highlighting the socio-economic and climate impacts of H2Global mechanism.

Communication and Knowledge Sharing:

  1. Develop and disseminate information on H2GSI initiatives through reports, presentations, and online events.
  2. Represent H2GSI at industry conferences and events as required.
  3. Create engaging content for shipping industry professionals.
  4. Provide cross-support to H2Global team.

Operational Excellence:

  1. Monitor progress and adherence to project timelines.
  2. Prepare progress reports and manage administrative procedures related to philanthropic funding.

H2GLOBAL

In line with the Paris Agreement, countries around the world have set themselves ambitious climate goals. These require significant changes in all sectors of the economy. The transition towards a CO2-neutral future, will require among others enhanced energy efficiency, the ramp-up of renewable energy, electrification whenever possible, and the broad adoption of low emission technologies such as clean hydrogen and its derivatives. H2Global was created to accelerate the emergence of markets for clean hydrogen and other zero and low emission technologies globally through market-based instruments.

An international non-profit, H2Global Foundation accelerates the emergence of clean hydrogen markets and other low-emission fuels worldwide by empowering governments to actively shape and support the ramp-up of the international clean hydrogen market. This is achieved through tenders that use the innovative H2Global mechanism, currently conducted by Hintco, a wholly owned subsidiary of the H2Global Foundation. Hintco tenders are tailored to meet specific objectives, such as promoting clean energy technology or decarbonizing specific sectors. The result of Hintco’s pilot auction includes transparency on prices, securing production and delivery of clean fuels and legal certainty for projects to take the all-important final investment decision (FID). The impact and lessons learned from pilot auctions and research on clean fuels is shared globally with industry, governments and wider stakeholders.
