10:45 – 11:20

Fireside Chat: Powering Progress – Hydrogen’s Pivotal Role in Decarbonizing Hard to-Abate Sectors
To set the scene, this stocktake session will: (1) explore the critical need and unique challenges of decarbonizing hard-to-abate sectors like shipping, aviation, and heavy industry, (2) delve into hydrogen's diverse applications as a game-changer for these sectors, and (3) discuss collaborative efforts, policy frameworks, and infrastructure development required to scale up hydrogen solutions effectively

Martin Tengler, Head of Hydrogen Research (BloombergNEF)
Moderator: Dr. Susana Moreira, Executive Director and Co-Chair (H2Global Foundation)

Session 2: Launch of the H2Global Solutions Lab

11:20 – 11:45

Introduction to the H2Global Solutions Lab
This session will showcase the current system failures that hinder low-carbon projects from their scale-up, exemplified for a range of hard-to-abate sectors. It will then discuss the suite of solutions required to overcome current hurdles and highlight the role of the H2Global mechanism. This, in turn, will lead to an introduction of the newly created H2Global Solutions Lab that has the mission to tailor H2Global’s double auction mechanism to hard-to-abate sectors.

Timo Bollerhey, CEO (Hintco), H2Global Lead Strategist (H2Global Foundation)
Dr. Maximilian Held, Head of Solutions Lab & Shipping Initiative (H2Global Foundation)

11:45 – 12:00

Q&A about the H2Global Solutions Lab
Opportunity for the audience to ask questions and share ideas about the H2Global Solutions Lab

12:00 – 13:15

Lunch break

Session 3: Launch of the H2Global Shipping Initiative

13:15 – 13:25

Overview and status quo
This session will dive into the shipping sector. It will discuss why maritime decarbonisation is a unique challenge and how the H2Global Shipping Initiative intends to leverage the current window of opportunity with the new Net-Zero Framework of the International Maritime Organisation (IMO), expected to be adopted in October 2025.

Dr. Maximilian Held, Head of Solutions Lab & Shipping Initiative (H2Global Foundation)

13:25 – 13:45

“Crosscurrents”: Navigating the space between optimism and pragmatism in the future of shipping decarbonization
In this session, we will hear perspectives from a fuel producer and an offtaker on (1) what makes them optimistic or pessimistic about the scale-up of clean shipping fuels, (2) what ingredients are still missing to create positive business cases for producing and using clean shipping fuels, and (3) from their experience what works and what doesn’t.

Lara Naqushbandi, Co-Founder and CEO (ET Fuels)
Noriko Hiyamizu, Director Environment & Sustainability (MOL (Europe Africa) Ltd.)
Moderator: Jan Klenke, Program Lead Research (H2Global Foundation)

13:45 – 14:45

Breakout discussions
Breakout groups will discuss two topics. Firstly, how the H2Global mechanism could unfold most impact when applied to the shipping sector (e.g. discussing where in the value chain the H2Global mechanism would be applied, how it could be connected to Green Corridors, etc.). Secondly, what tangible next steps would need to be taken to launch successful shipping pilot tenders, what hurdles we might face in this roll-out, and whether the H2Global mechanism could be used as a disbursement instrument for the IMO Net
Zero Fund.

Session 4: Launch of the H2Global Aviation Initiative

14:45 – 14:55

Overview and status quo
This session will dive into the aviation sector. It will discuss why the market introduction of advanced sustainable aviation fuels (SAF) – foremost electricity/hydrogen-based SAF (eSAF) – is a unique challenge and how the H2Global Aviation Initiative could support the goals of the European Commission’s Sustainable Transport Investment Plan.

Dr. Maximilian Held, Head of Solutions Lab & Shipping Initiative (H2Global Foundation)

14:55 – 15:15

“Tailwinds Talk”: The evolving reality of aviation decarbonization between aspiration and application
In this session, we will hear perspectives from a fuel producer and an offtaker on (1) what makes them optimistic or pessimistic about the scale-up of e-SAF, (2) what ingredients are still missing to create positive business cases for producing and using e-SAF, and (3) from their experience what works and what doesn’t.

Jan Toschka, CEO (Zaffra)
Additional speaker TBC
Moderator: Pauline Raabe, Project Manager (H2Global Foundation)

15:15 – 15:45

Breakout discussions
Breakout groups will discuss two topics. Firstly, how the H2Global mechanism could unfold most impact when applied to the aviation sector and what the challenges of an e SAF pilot tender are. Secondly, what tangible next steps would need to be taken to launch successful e-SAF pilot tenders, what hurdles we might face in this roll-out, and whether the H2Global mechanism could support the goals of the Sustainable Transport Investment Plan.

Session 5: Closing

15:45 – 15:55

Final reflections, future directions
This session will summarise the 3 key insights from the day, the 2 collectively identified big bets for scaling clean shipping and aviation fuels and the 1 call to action for all participants to support the mission of the H2Global Solutions Lab in 2025 and beyond.

15:55 – 16:00

Closing remarks
Tom Hautekiet, Chief Business Development & Transition Officer (Port of Antwerp-Bruges)

16:00 – 16:30
