What we do

The H2Global Solutions Lab is dedicated to unlocking the potential of clean hydrogen and low-carbon products for the world’s most challenging sectors to decarbonize. This includes shipping, aviation, steel, cement, and more. Each of these hard-to-abate industries has unique needs. That's why we customize H2Global’s double auction mechanism to create sector-specific solutions. By leveraging our deep engagement with governments, regulators, and stakeholders worldwide, we accelerate the adoption of clean hydrogen through innovation and insights from past H2Global tenders.

Mission

1
Tailor H2Global’s double auction mechanism to hard-to-abate transport (shipping, aviation, etc...) and industry (chemicals, fertilizer, cement, steel, etc.)
2
Build on established ties with governments and other relevant stakeholders to develop specific use cases of the tailor-made variations of the H2Global mechanism
3
Identify synergies with existing organizations active in the space such as demand aggregation initiatives

Mission

The mission of the H2Global Solutions Lab is to tailor H2Global’s double auction mechanism to the needs of hard-to-abate sectors.

1.

Accelerate Projects

Help projects reach a Final Investment Decision (FID).

2.

Create Markets

Establish liquid, self-sustaining markets for clean products.

3.

Maximize Impact

Use public funding efficiently to get the "biggest bang for the buck”.

Launch event

The H2Global Solutions Lab was successfully launched at the Port House in Antwerp, marking a major milestone in accelerating clean hydrogen-based solutions.

"The Solutions Lab is not just a forum — it’s a catalyst. By tailoring our proven double auction mechanism to the specific needs of sectors like aviation and shipping, we’re laying the groundwork for critical projects to move forward and reach Final Investment Decision."

Dr. Susana Moreira
Co-Chair of the H2Global Foundation.

"The H2Global Solutions Lab is designed to capitalize on the clear market signals being sent by new EU mandates and pending IMO regulations. The time to act is now. We need efficient, fast solutions to make clean fuels available."

Markus Exenberger
Co-Chair of the H2Global Foundation.

H2Global’s
Shipping Initiative

Our objective is to unlock the global scale-up of clean shipping fuels, which is a critical missing link in global decarbonization. With over $10 billion expected to flow annually through the IMO Net-Zero Fund starting in 2029, the International Maritime Organization is preparing a major financing vehicle to scale zero-emission fuels worldwide. The H2Global Shipping Initiative has two strategic goals:

Develop a customized version of the H2Global mechanism for a government-funded shipping pilot tender.
Propose this mechanism as a disbursement tool for the IMO Net-Zero Fund, supporting a just and equitable transition.

By aligning with Green Corridors and demand aggregators like the Zero Emission Maritime Buyers Alliance (ZEMBA), we support scalable, market-based solutions that drive investment, foster global collaboration, and enable an equitable maritime energy transition.

H2Global’s
Aviation Initiative

The H2Global Aviation Initiative is designed to accelerate the scale-up of e-SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel based on clean electricity/hydrogen). We're addressing one of the sector’s key bottlenecks: the lack of long-term offtake certainty.

Develop a customized version of the H2Global mechanism for a government-funded shipping pilot tender.
Propose this mechanism as a disbursement tool for the IMO Net-Zero Fund, supporting a just and equitable transition.

With the EU's crucial e-SAF mandate under ReFuelEU Aviation and its upcoming Sustainable Transport Investment Plan (STIP), Europe is laying the groundwork for transformative investment. The H2Global Aviation Initiative is working toward a tailored version of the double auction mechanism for a government-funded e-SAF pilot tender. By supporting FIDs for e-SAF producers, we can accelerate the global market uptake of clean aviation fuels.
