H2Global Foundation and H2DER sign MoU to advance clean hydrogen in Türkiye

Istanbul, 12 October 2026 – The H2Global Foundation and H2DER, the Green Hydrogen Producers Association, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore opportunities for cooperation in Türkiye’s emerging clean hydrogen sector.

The MoU was signed by Markus Exenberger, Chief Executive Officer of the H2Global Foundation, and Yusuf Günay, President of H2DER, at the German Consulate General in Istanbul.

H2DER is Türkiye’s leading green hydrogen industry body, bringing together energy companies, academia, and policymakers to drive green hydrogen production and replace fossil fuels.

The agreement comes ahead of COP31, which Türkiye will host in Antalya in November 2026. By contributing to the Turkish-German Energy Cooperation framework, the MoU will also underscore the value of international cooperation in the clean energy sector.

Under the MoU, the two organisations will:

  • engage in knowledge exchange;
  • explore how double-sided auctions can be applied to key sectors such as fertilisers, cement, and shipping;
  • organise joint events to foster dialogue among stakeholders.

Markus Exenberger, Chief Executive Officer, H2Global Foundation:

“Türkiye has significant potential to become both a producer and an offtaker of clean hydrogen. Now is the time to lay the groundwork for unlocking this potential by building on the country’s renewable energy resources, strategic location, and skilled workforce. With this MoU, we will engage in regular knowledge exchange and joint initiatives to spread awareness of H2Global’s double-sided auction mechanism.”

Yusuf Günay, President, H2DER: “To achieve Türkiye’s hydrogen strategy targets, we need to move from ambition to implementation by creating reliable demand, improving investment certainty, and establishing access to international markets for Turkish hydrogen producers. Our cooperation with H2Global is an important step in addressing these needs by connecting supply with demand, facilitating bankable projects, and supporting the development of a competitive and sustainable hydrogen market.”
