Antwerp, Belgium – On September 9, the H2Global Foundation successfully launched the H2Global Solutions Lab at the iconic Port House in Antwerp. Hosted by the Port of Antwerp-Bruges, the high-level event brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and innovators to accelerate the global adoption of clean hydrogen and low-carbon products.
The H2Global Solutions Lab is a new initiative designed to help overcome market barriers and unlock the potential of clean hydrogen and low-carbon products for the world’s toughest sectors to decarbonize, including shipping, aviation, steel, chemicals and cement. Each of those hard-to-abate industries faces unique decarbonization challenges. The Solutions Lab will leverage innovation and research, drawing on insights from past H2Global tenders and active engagement with governments, regulators and industry stakeholders worldwide, to create new markets for clean fuels where they are needed most.
“The Solutions Lab is not just a forum — it’s a catalyst”, said Dr. Susana Moreira, Co-Chair of the H2Global Foundation. “By tailoring our proven double auction mechanism to the specific needs of sectors like aviation and shipping, we’re laying the groundwork for critical projects to move forward and reach Final Investment Decision.”
"The H2Global Solutions Lab is designed to capitalize on the clear market signals being sent by new EU mandates and pending IMO regulations," Markus Exenberger, Chair of the H2Global Foundation. "The time to act is now. We need efficient, fast solutions to make clean fuels available."
The new department is home to the H2Global’s Shipping and Aviation Initiatives, working towards clear objectives such as support the launch of government-funded shipping tenders to unlock clean shipping fuels production or develop a multilateral e-SAF tender for Europe.
The event featured keynote addresses from prominent voices in the maritime and aviation industries. The urgency and opportunity of scaling clean fuel solutions was a widely recognized theme. Attendees participated in focused breakout sessions and agreed on the untapped potential of tailoring the H2Global mechanism to the needs of individual sectors. Moving forward, the H2Global Solutions Lab will continue to convene sector leaders, align policy frameworks, and leverage the H2Global mechanism to create global markets for clean fuels.
