Senior Communications Consultant
BACKGROUND
The H2Global Foundation accelerates the emergence of markets for clean hydrogen and other low-emission fuels worldwide. Hintco GmbH, a trading entity owned by the Foundation, trades clean hydrogen-based products and other low-carbon commodities via a competitive double-auction to shape the global energy transition. Together, we work to ensure the economic viability and sustainability of the hydrogen economy.
H2Global is seeking a top-notch Senior Communications Consultant to develop and implement the communications strategy for H2Global and Hintco and to help position the H2Global narrative and priorities in the competitive and rapidly evolving clean hydrogen space. The consultant will be hired on a Short-Term Consultancy (STC) contract and will work closely with H2Global’s management team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
As the Senior Communications Consultant, you will play a critical role in amplifying our impact by shaping the global narrative around our work, fostering partnerships, and engaging diverse audiences.
Strategic Communications Planning
- Develop and implement comprehensive communication strategies for both H2Global and Hintco, aligned with organizational objectives.
- Lead on creating tailored communications plans for key initiatives, projects, and events, ensuring consistent messaging across all channels.
- In case applicable, coordinate with Hintco’s communications-team
Content Creation and Management
- Oversee the creation of high-quality, engaging content for websites, press releases, reports, social media, and presentations.
- Manage external communications, including newsletters, media outreach, and stakeholder engagement materials.
- Ensure that all content reflects the unique missions of H2Global and Hintco and adheres to their respective visual and editorial style guides.
Travel and Event Representation
- Some travel within Europe and globally is expected to support events, partnerships, and media opportunities.
Media and Public Relations
- Build and maintain relationships with key journalists, editors, and media outlets.
- Act as a spokesperson when required
- Monitor and analyze media coverage, providing regular updates to leadership and stakeholders.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Collaborate with donors, government representatives, partner organizations, and civil society to amplify joint initiatives and drive awareness of H2Global/Hintco’s impact.
- Develop and deliver effective communication materials tailored to diverse stakeholder groups.
Digital and Online Presence
- Oversee the maintenance and development of the H2Global and Hintco websites, ensuring accessibility and relevance.
- Direct the organizations’ social media strategies, driving engagement and awareness through innovative campaigns.
Collaboration
- Manage external consultants, including graphic designers, developers, and PR agencies.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure alignment across all communications efforts.
- Mentor and support junior staff or contractors as the communications team expands.
The Consultant may be required to support other activities on an ad-hoc basis.
REPORTING ARRANGEMENTS
The Consultant will report to H2Global’s Management team and will work in close coordination with other members of the H2Global team.
The Consultant is expected to work independently on routine tasks and programs with guidance and close collaboration with H2Global’s staff.
DURATION
The contract will be based in Hamburg, Germany. On-site presence is not a requirement, though the Consultant is expected to be present at a few key events (e.g., the Donors’ Conferences).
The assignment will be for an estimated total of 180 days from February 29, 2025, through December 31, 2025, with the possibility of extension.
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
Experience and Skills
- 10+ years of experience in communications, PR, or related fields, preferably within the energy, climate, or non-profit sectors.
- Proven track record in developing and executing successful communication strategies.
- Strong media relations skills with an established network of international media contacts.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with native fluency in English; additional languages (German, French) are a plus.
- Experience managing digital platforms, including websites (Sanity CMS experience preferred) and social media.
- Ability to translate complex technical topics into accessible and compelling content for diverse audiences.
Education
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
